OUR APPROACH
The Pediatric Eye Clinic at Vision Eye Hospital was started with the aim of providing the best quality of eye care to children as we consider this as our medical and social responsibility. Over the last 20 years, more than 3000 children with cataracts, glaucoma as well as other disorders have been successfully treated and visually rehabilitated. The clinic has a team comprising of specialist ophthalmologists, experienced surgeons, anesthesiologists, and pediatric coordinators. We have a dedicated, state of the art operating room for pediatric eye surgery equipped with the latest surgical equipment. More importantly, the entire team is always prepared to provide technical support and guidance to the children and their families so that the child gets a lifetime of useful vision.
We often provide services to needy patients at our own expense as a consequence of our moral and social passion.
Over the years, because of our expertise in the field, we have grown to be a tertiary referral Centre for pediatric eye disorders for children all over India and in neighboring countries.
OUR PROCESS
For pediatric eye care, the diagnosis is a tricky aspect as kids don’t allow evaluation of the eye. Therefore, to find out the extent of the problem we conduct an examination under anesthesia. We also test the mother and siblings to determine whether it is a genetic disability. Once the problem is identified, the children’s parents are counseled about the extra care and follow up care required. After this, the child undergoes a surgery which is followed by regular follow up sessions to monitor the improvement in the eye.

What is Amblyopia (Lazy Eyes) and what are its important causes?
Eye movement disorders usually involve uncontrollable movements of the eye or eyes that are not able to focus properly. For example, your child’s eyes may cross in or drift out (strabismus), they may have decreased vision in one eye (lazy eye, or amblyopia) or they may have double vision.
What is Strabismus (Deviation of eyes)?
Strabismus is a type of eye movement disorder in which a child’s eyes look crossed. It is usually caused by an imbalance in the muscles that help the eyes stay straight and move together properly. Surgery on the eye muscles can help the eyes look straight. Children may have lasting vision loss in the less-used eye (amblyopia) if the condition is not treated in early childhood.
How early does my child need an eye check up?
Early identification of a child’s vision problem can be crucial because children often are more responsive to treatment when problems are diagnosed early. Early eye exams also are important because children need the following basic skills related to good eyesight for learning: Near vision, Distance vision, Binocular (two eyes) coordination, Eye movement skills, Focusing skills, Peripheral awareness.
What are the common eye problems seen in pediatric age group?
Children can have variety of eye problems. Some of the relatively common disorders are refractive errors, redness of eyes (conjunctivitis – infective or allergic), watering of eyes, strabismus (deviation of eyes), amblyopia (lazy eyes), lid abnormalities (ptosis), congenital cataracts, congenital glaucoma, developmental abnormalities of the eyes (microphthalmos), vitreous hemorrhage, retinopathy of prematurity etc.
What is Pediatric Cataracts?
Some children are born with cataracts, which are a clouding of the eye’s lenses. The clouding prevents images from being seen clearly or at all. In babies and young children, cataracts must be treated to prevent lasting problems with development of vision.
